Lawmaker votes for sweeping school aid budget
State Rep. Gary Howell today said all school districts in Lapeer County will receive the maximum increase in per-pupil funding in the school aid budget passed this week by the House.
Rep. Howell, R-North Branch, said every district in the county will receive a $120 foundation allowance increase for each student. He said it is vital to maintain full funding for Michigan’s classrooms to ensure a promising future for students.
“House Republicans have made K-12 education a priority, and this year’s budget spends more money for school districts than ever before,” Rep. Howell said. “The school aid budget also increases program funding for career and technical education for the coming fiscal year.”
Rep. Howell also voted for the budget that funds state departments, programs and services that are important to Michigan residents.
“We are investing in improving our roads and bridges to smooth the way for Michigan families and commerce,” Rep. Howell said. “We also are protecting our valuable natural resources that make Michigan a fantastic state in which to live and play.”
The budget bills now go to the Senate for consideration.
